Designing for Healthcare
Vacuum forming is the manufacturing method of choice for large medical equipment—such as MRI machine covers, diagnostic equipment housings, and hospital bed panels. These components are too large to injection mold cost-effectively, but they still require absolute precision.
The Sterilization Requirement
Medical housings must endure daily exposure to harsh cleaning chemicals (like bleach and isopropyl alcohol) and sometimes UV sterilization. Standard plastics will quickly yellow, crack, or degrade under these conditions.
- Medical-Grade PETG: Excellent chemical resistance and impact strength, widely used for transparent or opaque protective covers.
- Antimicrobial ABS: Specialized grades of ABS can be extruded with silver-ion antimicrobial additives. This actively inhibits the growth of bacteria on the surface of the equipment housing, providing a passive layer of protection in hospital environments.
ISO 13485 Compliance
Manufacturing for the medical sector requires strict adherence to quality management systems. At M/S RV Chumble, we ensure complete lot traceability for every sheet of plastic used, allowing our medical clients to meet their FDA and global compliance requirements with confidence.
